A formidable fort offering spectacular views of Jaipur city, especially beautiful at sunset and known for its extended wall connecting it to Jaigarh Fort.
Nahargarh Fort stands on the edge of the Aravalli Hills, overlooking the pink city of Jaipur. Built in 1734 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the fort was originally named Sudarshangarh but was later renamed Nahargarh, meaning 'abode of tigers'.
The fort was primarily built as a defense structure and formed a strong defense ring for the city along with Amber Fort and Jaigarh Fort. The fort walls extend over the surrounding hills, forming an impressive defense system that connected the forts.
Inside the fort complex, visitors can explore the Madhavendra Bhawan, a palace divided into suites for the king and his twelve queens. Each suite was designed with bedrooms, lobbies, kitchens, and stores. The palace showcases some beautiful frescoes and intricate architectural details.
Nahargarh Fort offers some of the most spectacular views of Jaipur city. The panoramic vistas are particularly breathtaking at sunset when the entire city is bathed in golden light. The fort has also been featured in several Bollywood films, including the popular movie 'Rang De Basanti'.
