Museum dedicated to the traditional art of hand block printing, housed in a restored haveli (mansion) in Amber.
The Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing is a unique museum dedicated to the traditional craft of hand block printing, a centuries-old textile art form that Rajasthan is famous for. Located in a beautifully restored haveli (mansion) in Amber, about 10 km from Jaipur city center, the museum was established in 2005 by the founders of Anokhi, a renowned textile company.
The museum showcases the history, tools, techniques, and designs of hand block printing through a collection of textiles, blocks, and interactive displays. Visitors can learn about the entire process of block printing, from carving the wooden blocks to preparing the fabric, mixing natural dyes, and applying the prints.
The museum building itself is a heritage structure that dates back to the 17th century. The haveli has been carefully restored using traditional materials and techniques, winning several awards for architectural conservation. The restoration process has preserved the original features of the building while adapting it for its new purpose as a museum.
In addition to its permanent collection, the museum hosts temporary exhibitions, workshops, and demonstrations by master craftsmen. It also houses a small shop where visitors can purchase block-printed textiles and related products, supporting the continuation of this traditional craft.
